At Hugh Moore Park

The main purpose of Wildlands Conservancy’s Bike & Boat program is to provide school children with an exciting environmental education experience to promote conservation and responsible stewardship.  The Bike & Boat program at Hugh Moore has the added bonus of the park’s historic structures, archeological sites, canal and working lock. Imagine the thrill of floating through history on the Lehigh Canal, the last towpath canal to operate in America!

Bike and Boat utilizes the riparian zone of the Lehigh River as an outdoor classroom. We engage in a daylong exploration of the Lehigh River by canoe with built in educational stops on river islands that are used as laboratory locations to conduct chemical, physical and biological assessments of the health of the waterway. After canoeing, participants bicycle along the Lehigh Navigational Canal towpath for additional activities focusing on the unique cultural, historical, natural science and ecological aspects of the watershed. There are many opportunities to view wildlife including eagles, osprey, deer and fox. We provide bicycles, canoes, safety equipment, naturalists and certified safety instructors to accompany the group. Fee: $35/person (min 10, max 100).
