Summer Programs
1-1/2 to 2 hour programs at Hugh Moore Park (
directions). All programs start at 10 am unless otherwise noted. Program fee: $8.00 for nonmembers / $6.00 for members.
Aug. 20 - Wacky Water games
It’s hot and why not be a little crazy. We’ll play all sorts of silly games involving water using everything from water balloons, buckets, and a garden hose.
Aug. 30 - 1900s Ice Cream Social
Play games from the Victorian era and crank your own ice cream
After-School Programs
These programs start at 4:00 pm at Hugh Moore Park and are geared towards teaching children about the outdoors and history of the area. Most programs take place on Wednesdays. Price depends on program. Registration is required.
Sept. 10 - Cane Pole Fishing
Use a pole and line to catch fish, make a fish print, and learn all about types of fish found in the Lehigh River and make a fish print to take home. $8.00 per child
Sept. 15 - (Monday!) Wild flower walk at Hugh Moore Park
Take a wildflower walk with our gardener Carol. She will open your eyes to the beauty of wildflowers and show you the many varieties of goldenrod to name just one wildflower you will encounter at the park. Craft. $8.00
Sept. 24 - Apple fun
It’s that time of year and apple are abundant. We will learn the story of the apple, their importance as a natural resource and make apple cider. $8.00
Oct. 1 - Colonial Crafts
Make your own candle and weave a book cover for yourself. $8.00 per child
Oct. 8 - Woodland Scavenger Hunt
Explore Hugh Moore Park through a scavenger hunt and you will also learn how animals get ready for the winter. We will collect materials to make a collage to take home. $6.00
Oct. 15 - Evening Walk
It’s a full moon so let’s go on a moon walk. We will learn about nocturnal animals From 5:00 – 6:00 pm $6.00
Oct. 22 – Animal Myths
Are bats really blind? Do you believe that owls are wise? We are going to learn about animal myths and what is fact and what is false. Craft $6.00
Oct. 29 - Ghost Stories of the Lehigh Valley
It’s Halloween time so come hear some scary stories about ghost. The canal even has its own ghost story.
Nov. 5 - Felt Hats Galore It’s getting winter and there is a odd holiday dedicated to replacing that summer hat with a nice winter felt hat. Those Victorians were really odd. Come learn about Victorian dress and make your own felt hat to take home. $6.00
Nov. 12 - Owls
Owls are fascinating animals. Come learn all about them and make a craft.
Nov. 19 - Native American Games
Make and play the Native American Stick game a popular game. You will learn the history of this game and also play other Native American games. $ 6.00
Dec. 3 - Make a toy for a friend
It’s Christmas time and the joy of giving is all around. Children in the 1900s usually received homemade gifts if they received gifts at all for Christmas. Come make a Jacobs Ladder toy for a friend or keep it for your self.

Sept.6 - Walking in the Clouds
Clouds are fascinating. In this program we will take a cloud walk and observe and identify the various types of clouds. We will be using the book Take a Cloud Walk by Jan Kirkland to help us in our discoveries. $6.00 per child
Sept. 20 - 100 year old Fun!
X-Box didn’t exist a 100 years ago. Come out to Hugh Moore Park and learn how kids kept themselves entertained a century ago. Play Three Blind Mice, Fox & Goose, rolling hoops, relay games, and much more Make a Jacob’s ladder toy to take home. $6.00

Nov.8 - Corn husk dolls
This program is for adults and children ages 10 and up.
Native Americans introduced corn to the early settlers of the United States. They introduced them to corn and its many uses one of which was a corn husk doll. Come learn about this history of this doll and make one for yourself. $12.00 per doll per person. Pre-registration is required.
Nov. 15 – Fall Colors
Why do leaves change colors? What happens to trees in the winter? Explore the changes that take place in the fall that gives us beautiful fall leaves. $6.00
Environmental Education Programs
Wildlands Conservancy and The National Canal Museum have teamed up to bring you Wildlands Environmental Education programming. All programs take place at Hugh Moore Park in The Emrick Technology Center.

Days Gone By - Girl Scout Program
Have you ever wondered what it was like living on the canal? Visit a locktender's house on the Lehigh Canal and learn all about canal life. Do laundry in a washtub, play old-time games, harness a mule (fiberglass), and make apple cider.
Available weekends and after-school September, October, May, & June; call to arrange a date and time. Cost: $8.00 per girl
Taking this workshop will enable girls to earn/meet requirements for the following Girl Scout Badges: Try-It Listening to the Past, Local Folk Lore, Toymaker or History Hunt badges.
