Notice: Reduced 2026 Schedule

Due to planned construction on the Glendon Hill Road Bridge, the National Canal Museum will operate on a shortened schedule this year. Our 2026 season will be open from Friday, March 27 through the end of May. Public canal boat rides will not be offered during the 2026 season.

In 1942, the welcome return of Spring was overshadowed by the shock of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the fall of the Philippines and most of southeast Asia to the Japanese. The United States aggressively ramped up to a wartime footing manufacturing weapons, ammunition, tanks, planes and ships. Bethlehem Steel, which had essentially been the arsenal of the Allies in World War I, was in the forefront of this effort.
