Vernal Pool Walk
Gerald E. Seyfried Bear Park Swamp Park and Archery Complex
April 17, 2025, 5pm
Join naturalist David FitzSimmons for a guided hike to an amphibian-filled vernal pool at Bear
Swamp Park. The author of “Salamander Dance,” a children’s book about the annual life cycle of
salamanders and the temporary ponds they use for egg-laying, will lead a small group to a vernal
pool. Depending on the progress of the young spotted salamanders and wood frogs, you will see egg
masses attached to branches and twigs and/or larvae swimming in the pool. While the walk is not
long or difficult (less than 10 minutes on level ground), you will pass through some standing
water. So please wear waterproof boots. Please meet in the small archery shelter next to the
parking lot before the walk to the pool. (Rain or Shine, 1 Hour)
Capacity is limited for this walk. If you would like to preorder a book for signing, please
purchase one from our store. Only preordered books will be available on April 17th, but a public
author visit and book signing will be held on Saturday, April 19th, from 10:30am until 4:30pm at
the National Canal Museum in Hugh Moore Park, Easton. Books may also be picked up at our Museum
Store.
