The Place For Canal Research

Due to the closure of the Glendon Hill Road Bridge leading into Hugh Moore Park, the National Canal Museum, DLNHC offices, and archives will be temporarily closed through the remainder of 2026. As a result, our research capacity will be limited, and we will be unable to accommodate archival visits during this time.

Researchers may still submit Archive Requests, and we will make every effort to accommodate them to the best of our ability given the circumstances.

We appreciate your patience and understanding and look forward to resuming normal operations as soon as access is restored.

On-site research fees are $10 for up to 2 hours, with each additional hour at $5/hour. DLNHC and Pennsylvania Canal Society Members receive up to 5 hours free per year; DLNHC Members at the Contributing level ($250) and above receive unlimited access.  More information about DLNHC membership can be found here.  Students with a valid ID may receive access without cost at the discretion of our staff.

For those unable to visit the Archives, our staff can conduct research at a fee of $50 (paid in advance) for up to one hour; $25 per hour thereafter. Research fees apply whether or not relevant information is found. Simple requests for general information may be answered without cost at the discretion of our staff.
